Eliana is a dear friend I met over 15 years ago while traveling in Brazil. She welcomed me like family and has always been there for me, so it’s my honor to support her now. Eliana is 41 years old and lives in Belford Roxo, a neighborhood outside Rio de Janeiro. About six months ago, she began experiencing discomfort and, after a series of medical appointments and tests, was diagnosed with colorectal cancer (adenocarcinoma). The diagnosis turned her world upside down, but thankfully it was caught early, and her chances for recovery are good.

Eliana is currently undergoing oral chemotherapy, a treatment that’s more complex for her because she had a gastrectomy 12 years ago due to morbid obesity. She’s facing this challenge with incredible strength, continuing to work and socialize when she can, despite the ups and downs of treatment. While the public health system (SUS) has helped with some costs, Eliana has had to pay for many tests and treatments herself, leading to debts and financial strain. She also needs a more balanced diet to support her health, and she’s doing her best to stay hopeful.

This year, Eliana joined the adoption waiting list, hoping to fulfill her dream of becoming a mother. She wants to see the world, meet new people, and smile again. I am managing this fundraiser with her full authorization, and every bit of support will help Eliana pay off her debts and move forward with a healthier, more hopeful life.
