Our family’s world changed overnight when my 19 year old sister, Elena, was diagnosed with Stage 3 ovarian cancer.
I am creating this fundraiser for Elena, who has been through an incredibly life altering medical journey.
What we initially believed were two large ovarian cysts turned out to be far more serious. Thankfully, during surgery doctors were able to remove both cysts and all visible cancer, which we are so deeply grateful for. However, Elena now faces the long road of chemotherapy and recovery ahead.
Just weeks before her diagnosis, Elena was in Colorado living her best college life and working toward her dream of becoming a pediatric doctor. Then she began experiencing severe abdominal pain that became so intense she could not sleep or eat. Despite how much pain she was in, Elena bravely took herself to urgent care, where doctors immediately sent her to the emergency room.
After bloodwork and a CT scan revealed two very large ovarian cysts, emergency surgery was recommended. Once back home in California, Elena was referred to Sutter Health, and thankfully they were able to get her into surgery quickly. During the operation, surgeons discovered the cysts were located on the sides of her ovaries, allowing them to save both ovaries, something we had feared might not be possible.
Although surgeons removed all visible cancer, Elena’s chemotherapy regimen is critical to target any remaining microscopic cells and give her the best possible chance at long term remission.
As you can imagine, the medical bills have already begun to add up, including surgery, hospital stays, chemotherapy treatments, medications, and ongoing care. The emotional toll has been heavy, and the financial burden is quickly becoming overwhelming for our family.
If you are able to support Elena in any way, whether through a donation, sharing this page, or keeping her in your thoughts and prayers, it would mean more than we can express. Elena has shown incredible strength and courage through all of this, and we are standing beside her every step of the way.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read her story and for any support you can give.
