Support Elasco's Journey to Provide for His Family
Donation protected
Dear friends and community,
My name is Zoë, and I’m organizing this GoFundMe on behalf of Elasco Serekizi. As a case aide at a local refugee resettlement agency, I’ve been working with Elasco and his family since they arrived in the United States in February of this year. Elasco is paralyzed from the waist down and uses crutches to get around. Only having access to crutches has greatly limited his mobility, which prevents him from working—and Medicaid will not cover the cost of a mobility scooter.
As a father of four children, Elasco is anxious to begin working to provide for his family, but is unable to do so due to his current situation. Please consider donating to help cover the cost of a mobility scooter, as it would greatly help a refugee and his family who are already facing significant challenges as they’re rebuilding their lives in a new country. Elasco only speaks French, but I have translated the message he wanted to share here:
“Hello to all, my name is Elasco Serekizi. I am a refugee from Central Africa who arrived in Durham, North Carolina, five months ago with my wife and four children. I have been paralyzed from the waist down since I was 7 seven years old due to a bicycle accident. Since arriving in the United States, I’ve been unable to work due to my disability, and currently my only way to be mobile is a pair of crutches that were given to me. This GoFundMe is to help raise money to cover the cost of a mobility scooter, which would improve my quality of life in many ways. Please consider donating, it would be a great help to me and my family. May God bless you, and thank you very much.”
