Hi! Regarding the Lahaina Fires: my mom’s sister, my aunty Elaine Aotaki and her dog Happy have lost everything due to the fires. The house she has lived her entire life, my mom’s childhood home was completely decimated.
She only was able to get the dog in the car with some dog food so she is having to start over from scratch.
The money will be used by her, for her, to buy new essentials on the island; she is currently on the other side in Wailuku with my other aunty, she is buying some essential clothing, dog food, food for her and my aunty who she is staying with, and personal hygiene items while we gather a care package for her on the mainland (Los Angeles) which we hope can get there as quickly as possible.
Elaine works in the office at the local highschool Lahainaluna and has lived in this home her entire life.
The house was built by my grandfather and his brothers, and lived in by my grandparents, Masao & Kimi Aotaki until their passing of natural causes and my uncle Rueben Aotaki, my mom and Eliane’s brother, until his passing of natural causes.
Elaine now lives solo with her dog, Happy an 11 year old Doodle.
She also is a huge help at the Lahaina Jodo Mission, which has also unfortunately, burned down.
Anything can help during this difficult time as this was so sudden and no one could have prepared or predicted this.
Thank you everyone so much
