Hello everyone,
My name is Elaila, and I am a History major studying at the illustrious North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University with a deep passion for understanding the stories, cultures, and events that have shaped our world. I have been given an incredible opportunity to study abroad in Johannesburg, South Africa, through the Africa Study Abroad: Diaspora Engagement Program.
Growing up, I was always taught the importance of my ancestors' legacy, who they were, and where they came from, making Africa a topic of pride in my household, a symbol of direct black excellence.
This program will allow me to study on the very soil where so many important historical moments took place. As a History scholar, being able to experience South Africa’s culture, historical sites, and communities firsthand will deepen my understanding in ways that textbooks alone never could. Learning directly in the environment where history happened will be a powerful and unforgettable part of my education
To make this opportunity possible, I aim to raise $4,000 by May 4, 2026, to help cover the costs of the trip. These funds will be used solely for the educational expenses related to the program, including:
• My plane ticket to Johannesburg, South Africa
• Room and board accommodations
• Program fee, which covers: On campus housing accommodations, transportation, excursions, meals, and program activities
This experience will help me grow academically, culturally, and personally while allowing me to gain a deeper understanding of the African diaspora and South African history. Any contribution, no matter the amount, would mean so much and help bring me closer to this life-changing opportunity. If you are unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser with others would also make a huge difference.
Thank you so much for supporting my education and helping me take this important step in my academic journey.
Love, Elaila
