Support EJ Brady's Journey to Health and Recovery

Hi everyone,
My name is Bob Gentile, and I’d like to take a moment to share something deeply personal and important with you.
I’m reaching out on behalf of someone who has meant the world to me for over 15 years — EJ Brady. EJ isn’t just a close friend. He’s been my mentor, counselor, comedian, confidant, brother, and chosen family. His heart, his humor, and his unwavering support have shaped so many of us, and now it’s our turn to be there for him.
Like many others, EJ faced a difficult battle with alcoholism — a disease that touches far too many lives. But in true EJ fashion, he met that challenge with strength and accountability. He’s been sober for 2.5 years, and I couldn’t be prouder of the work he’s done to rebuild his life.
In December 2022, EJ was diagnosed with cirrhosis, a serious and irreversible liver condition caused by extensive scarring. Not long after his diagnosis, he experienced a life-threatening episode of internal bleeding, which required emergency surgery and the placement of a stent in the vein leading to his liver.
In August 2023, he underwent a second surgery to treat a blood blockage that caused a toxic buildup affecting his brain — a dangerous condition known as hepatic encephalopathy. On top of all this, EJ is also living with Type 2 diabetes, which makes healing much more difficult and significantly increases the risk of complications before, during, and after surgery. Diabetes puts added strain on his liver and demands constant medical supervision to manage symptoms and prevent infection.
Due to these ongoing and severe health conditions, EJ has been unable to work since his first surgery. He continues to battle symptoms like extreme fatigue, weakness, cognitive confusion, and the inability to manage basic daily tasks. His condition has now progressed to decompensated cirrhosis, the most advanced stage of liver failure. At this point, a liver transplant is the only remaining option and has been placed on the national transplant liver waiting list.
This fundraiser is our way of rallying behind EJ — to help him not only secure the transplant he needs, but also manage the overwhelming medical and recovery costs that come with it. Whether you know EJ personally or are simply moved by his story, your support — financial, emotional, or otherwise — means the world.
Let’s come together as friends, family, colleagues, and community to surround him with the love and help he deserves. EJ has spent his life giving to others — now it’s our turn to show up for him.
With love and gratitude,
Bob
