Eileen is a 44-year-old loving mother of four children and a proud grandmother of nine. Her family is her entire world—and she is ours. She is the heart of our family, the one who holds us together with her strength, love, and unwavering support.
On April 19th, Eileen went to the hospital in Twentynine Palms with severe stomach pain. She was diagnosed with a UTI and constipation and sent home, despite signs of an ulcer that were never fully investigated. The very next day, everything changed.
On April 20th, Eileen began violently vomiting blood. We called an ambulance, and she was rushed back to the hospital. Her condition had rapidly worsened—her heart rate was over 200, and she was in diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). A CT scan revealed a blockage in her bowels, and she was urgently transferred to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.
When she arrived on April 21st, her heart stopped multiple times. Doctors had to shock her repeatedly to bring her back. She was rushed into emergency surgery, where they discovered something devastating: two blood clots in her main arteries had cut off circulation, causing 95% of her intestines to die. Out of 600 cm of intestine, only about 15cm could be saved.
We were told she might not survive—but Eileen is a fighter.
Against the odds, she pulled through surgery. She is now facing life with short bowel syndrome and may need an intestinal transplant if she is a candidate. She will also require lifelong nutrition through a TPN tube. This is just the beginning of a long and uncertain road.
On April 25th, she reached a major milestone—she was taken off the ventilator and sedation. She is awake and speaking, though she remains in severe pain. As of April 26th, doctors are evaluating whether a stent can be placed to improve blood flow to her remaining intestine, giving her a chance at further surgery to reconnect and close her abdomen to stabilize her body.
Eileen is also battling Type 1 diabetes and congestive heart failure, making her recovery even more complex. Despite everything, she continues to fight with everything she has.
Her journey is far from over. As a family, we are asking for help during this incredibly difficult time. The medical bills and the worry of finances at home are overwhelming, and Eileen will need ongoing care and support as she continues to fight for her life and her future.
If you are able, please consider donating, sharing, or keeping Eileen in your thoughts and prayers. Every bit of support means the world to us.
Eileen is strong. Eileen is loved. And she is not done fighting.
