**Update: I just want to take a moment and Thank everyone for your kind words, your support, and and your prayers. We are truly grateful for each and every one of you.
**Update: November 7th, on the way to being transported to the hospice care house, Eileen Gay Higgins passed away. Doctors increased her morphine for the trip to the hospice house to prevent her blood pressure from spiking up to 214 again, but it was too much on her body and her body gave up. Her family is absolutely devastated. Please, if you cannot donate, share.
Eileen G. Higgins is an amazing woman who has been married to her husband Ken for 37 years and who has 2 beautiful boys, Dylan and Zack. She was a paraprofessional, a substitute teacher, an LNA, she worked at a local convenience store for years, and the Polish Club in Nashua where all her patrons loved her. Eileen has overcome many health issues over the years. Eileen has had to stay at the Lahey Clinic on several occasions. She had a cyst the size of a basketball in her stomach, diverticulitis, stroke, diverticulosis, glaucoma, severe arthritis; she has had a medically necessary full hysterectomy, diagnosed with kidney disease, and emphysema. But doctors don't think she has more than 2 weeks left due to her most recent diagnosis: Stage 4 lung cancer that has collapsed one of her lungs and moved into her spine and started deteriorating her vertebrae. Doctors say her kidneys are functioning at 1/4%. She can barely breathe, barely talk, and barely move. She is being moved today, Friday, November 7th, 2025, into a hospice in Merrimack, NH, to spend her time comfortably surrounded by her boys and professional medical staff. Her husband Ken is retired and is collecting social security, trying to get by on a fixed income. Her youngest son has taken a temporary leave of absence from his place of employment so he can spend every minute with his mother during this time. Her oldest son has been laid off for the winter and is collecting unemployment benefits for the winter months. He is also spending every minute he can with the woman who brought him into this world. Ken, Zack, and Dylan have all been rotating days and nights making sure Eileen is not alone. Because no one deserves to die alone.
I have been dating the oldest son for 16 years now. Although we are not married, I still look at Eileen as my mother-in-law. She has been there for me, comforted me, helped me, supported me, and now it is my time to return the favor. While this disease is eating away at her, something else is eating away at her now. Eileen is stressing about the burden of her own funeral costs. No one should have to think about this while learning they do not have much time left. She should be enjoying the presence of her loved ones, reminiscing about good times and the life she once had. So I am asking for the public's help with raising funds for her and her family to afford a service and cremation. Please, anything will help whether it's $1, $5, or $10. Help this beautiful soul have a beautiful goodbye.
All funds will be used for support/service/cremation. F*** Cancer.
