A few days ago, my dad, Efren Cordero, went to the hospital for what we thought was just a stomach ache. We never expected to learn he has Stage 4 Pancreatic cancer. Our world changed in an instant.
Our little ‘ohana - just me and my two daughters, my mom Donnie, my dad, and my sister and her two sons - are now facing medical bills, lost income, and everyday expenses we just can’t cover on our own.
This has been a rough year for our family. My mom had hip surgery and I almost lost my life by complications from childbirth. Through all these challenges, my dad has been there every step of the way. But because of that, he has taken off from work for much of this year, making it very difficult to keep up with bills.
My dad’s biggest wish has always been simple but so important: to keep our family together here in Hawai‘i, with a safe, stable home for his wife, children, and grandchildren. Even in the hospital, Dad is fighting every day - walking the halls and staying strong because he wants to get better for us.
He has always been so proud to be a part of his community - through his work at Kamehameha Schools, his hometown of Kalihi, his longtime Kalakaua basketball ‘ohana, and his friends and memories from Farrington (Go Govs!) Now, we’re humbly asking for the support of our extended ‘ohana so he can focus on what matters most - fighting this disease.
Even a little donation helps us keep going. If you can’t give, sharing our story or sending us your aloha means the world. Mahalo nui loa from our ‘ohana to yours
