Three weeks ago, our world shifted when my husband, Edwin, was unexpectedly laid off from his job. While we were already navigating the uncertainty that comes with job loss, we never imagined we would also be facing a medical emergency.

What we initially thought was just a stomach bug quickly turned into something much more serious. During a phone interview, Edwin suddenly experienced severe abdominal cramping and spiked a fever of 103 degrees. We rushed to the ER that Friday, February 13th, where we waited for eight long hours before getting answers. A CT scan showed that his appendix was inflamed. We were told not to worry and that surgery was scheduled for 12:00 pm the following day.

Unfortunately, the surgery was delayed by several hours. During that time, Edwin’s appendix ruptured.

What was supposed to be a routine appendectomy became a far more serious situation. Since then, Edwin has been in the hospital for multiple days, battling infection and working toward recovery. Instead of focusing on healing and finding new employment, we are now facing mounting medical bills and unexpected expenses during an already financially vulnerable time.

Edwin is strong and doing everything he can to recover, but this has taken a physical, emotional, and financial toll on our family. We are asking for support to help cover hospital expenses, medications, and essential living costs while Edwin heals and gets back on his feet.
