My name is Calvin. Hi, I’m raising money to help my friend get through a double bypass heart surgery and not lose his home, job, or cats!

Edward Pochay recently suffered a heart attack. The doctors then found two arteries that were very blocked. They said it was too big for stents, so if he hopes to live much longer, he’ll need to upgrade his heart. Scary!

Apparently, he has been running at 30% for some time. This was during a difficult healing time after other surgeries on his back and knees. I was very impressed with his recovery. So if this surgery can bring his strength back up over 70%, imagine all the health he will have to do his work.

What is his work, you ask? Besides being my friend, who always reminds me of who I am and to live my best life for my family, he works for Sacramento County with people struggling in difficult circumstances. Whether they are homeless, chemically addicted, or mentally challenged, he is a first responder to people in crisis. He goes into jails. He communicates hope to those in need. He is needed! Even ten years more could impact conservatively 2 people a week, 104 a year, 1040 in ten years' lives redirected. Because he lived! Plus being there for me and you!

Now, I would hope he could get the surgery without our help, but could he get it and hold onto his job, housing, and rescue pets? No. See, he only has a week of vacation available and little savings. He has no children, parents, or immediate family to whom he can lean on. He doesn’t lean on friends. So he would be forced to lose his stuff, his job, and find housing in some kind of communal living situation. Bleh!

I think we can do better. My hope is to raise 3 months of basic living expenses: rent, car payment, food, and utilities. So he can expect to stay where he is at and heal quickly to get right back in the saddle. We think this is what is best. This is doable.
