Support Edward's Brain Surgery & Recovery

On July 11th, my parents, Silvia and Jaime, received a call from my little brother Edward (aka Lalo) in Mexico. He was experiencing severe head pain and, alarmingly, was unable to move his legs for a time. When the ambulance arrived, they checked his blood pressure, gave him medication, and left without offering real help or taking him to the hospital. We're especially grateful to our cousin Daniel and Edward's friends, who stepped in and rushed him to the nearest hospital that night. By early Saturday, we learned Edward had suffered a ruptured aneurysm and urgently needed surgery that the local hospital couldn't provide. He was transferred to an appropriate hospital that could perform the surgery he required and had the medical team he needed. On July 13th, Edward underwent open brain surgery. Thanks to Dr. Ramirez Andrade and his team, the procedure went well, but Edward remains in a critical window for recovery, requiring constant monitoring and care from a team of specialists.

Edward is the life of the party—he makes friends everywhere, loves music from metal to old country, oldies, among other music genres, including Chalino Sanchez. He's become the family private tour guide in Guadalajara, taking us to some great food spots. He's kind, helpful, and has a style all his own, often seen in his shades, bandana, and cowboy hat. This experience has devastated our family emotionally and financially. Seeing Edward in therapia intermedia is heartbreaking, and the mounting medical bills are overwhelming. His "seguro/disability" won't be able to cover any of the costs so far, which include hospital fees, ambulance transfers, multiple doctors' fees, materials, and the surgery itself. Once Edward is stable, we plan to transfer him to a hospital that will be covered. We're raising funds to help cover these urgent expenses and to support his long road to recovery, including physical therapy and living costs for our parents as they care for him in Guadalajara. Any support will help us give Edward the best chance at healing and create a healthier life, still enjoying the people he loves.

With the understanding that there is so much going on around us and afar, and with much pain within our communities and this world, we know that everyone must prioritize their support as they see fit. Apoyo para la Cirugía Cerebral y Recuperación de Edward

El 11 de julio, mis padres, Silvia y Jaime, recibieron una llamada de mi hermano pequeño Edward (también conocido como Lalo) en México. Estaba experimentando un dolor de cabeza severo y, alarmantemente, no podía mover las piernas por un tiempo. Cuando llegó la ambulancia, le tomaron la presión arterial, le dieron medicamento y se fueron sin ofrecer ayuda real o llevarlo al hospital. Estamos especialmente agradecidos con nuestro primo Daniel y los amigos de Edward, quienes intervinieron y lo llevaron de urgencia al hospital más cercano esa noche. El sábado temprano, supimos que Edward había sufrido una aneurisma rota y que necesitaba cirugía urgente, la cual el hospital local no podía realizar. Fue transferido a un hospital adecuado que podía hacer la cirugía que necesitaba y contaba con el equipo médico necesario. El 13 de julio, Edward se sometió a una cirugía cerebral abierta. Gracias al Dr. Ramírez Andrade y su equipo, el procedimiento fue exitoso, pero Edward sigue en una ventana crítica de recuperación, requiriendo monitoreo constante y atención de un equipo de especialistas.

Edward es el alma de la fiesta; hace amigos en todos lados, le encanta la música, desde el metal hasta la música country antigua, los "oldies" y otros géneros musicales, incluyendo a Chalino Sánchez. Se ha convertido en el guía turístico privado de la familia en Guadalajara, llevándonos a lugares geniales para comer. Es amable, servicial y tiene un estilo único, que siempre se ve en sus gafas de sol, bandana y sombrero de vaquero. Esta experiencia ha devastado a nuestra familia emocional y financieramente. Ver a Edward en terapia intermedia es desgarrador y las cuentas médicas siguen aumentando. Su "seguro/discapacidad" no cubrirá ninguno de los costos hasta ahora, que incluyen las tarifas hospitalarias, traslados en ambulancia, múltiples honorarios de doctores, materiales y la cirugía misma. Una vez que Edward se estabilice, planeamos transferirlo a un hospital que esté cubierto. Estamos recaudando fondos para ayudar a cubrir estos gastos urgentes y para apoyar su largo camino hacia la recuperación, que incluye fisioterapia y los costos de vida de nuestros padres mientras lo cuidan en Guadalajara. Cualquier apoyo nos ayudará a darle a Edward la mejor oportunidad de sanar y crear una vida más saludable, aún disfrutando de las personas que ama.

Entendemos que hay mucho sucediendo a nuestro alrededor y a lo lejos, y con tanto dolor dentro de nuestras comunidades y en este mundo, sabemos que cada quien debe priorizar su apoyo como lo vea conveniente.
