Goal: Raise $4,860 to sponsor 27 students at Mtomondoni Secondary School in Kenya for one full year of education and meals.

 In the summer of 2023, I had the privilege to visit Mombasa, Kenya, through a program organized by International Medical Aid. During my time there, I participated in Women’s Health and Hygiene Education sessions and witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by students at Mtomondoni Secondary School.

 The principal of Mtomondoni shared that nearly half of their 550 students — about 250 — come from backgrounds of extreme poverty where education often cannot be prioritized. Yet education is transformative: it fuels economic growth, reduces violence and gang involvement, lowers poverty, and decreases infant and maternal mortality rates. It also helps communities prevent the spread of diseases such as HIV/AIDS and malaria.

 According to the Mtomondoni Secondary School website, it costs 23,200 Kenyan Shillings (approximately $180 USD) to educate one student for an entire year — including tuition and meals. I am setting a goal to raise enough funds to fully sponsor 27 students.

 To put it into perspective:     
•  If 1,000 people donated just $5   
•  Or 500 people donated $10 We could meet this goal without placing additional financial burden on struggling families.

 Common items that cost $5 or less: A cup of coffee, a pack of Lifesaver mints, a Burger King “$5 Your Way Meal.”
Common items that cost $10 or less: A Chick-Fil-A sandwich and fries, a four-pack of ice packs, LED string lights.
