Support equality-based education: Help fund school transfers

Donation protected
We believe that every family in Ireland should have real school choice and that every child should have the option to attend an Educate Together school if they wish.

Right now, that choice simply doesn’t exist for most families.

A turning point for education in Ireland
In April 2026, the Department of Education & Youth released the results of a national survey on school patronage and the message from parents is clear:

40% of parents with children in religious-run schools would prefer a multi-denominational primary school

Yet over 95% of primary schools remain under religious patronage

This gap is stark and it shows that Ireland’s school system is out of step with the needs of today’s families.

For the first time, there is a real opportunity to change that.

What happens next
The Government is now moving into the next phase of school reconfiguration, where:
  • Schools with demand for change will be identified
  • Communities will be supported through a transition process
  • Schools can transfer to new patronage from 2027 onwards
Educate Together is ready to support schools, parents and communities through this process but we need the resources to do it.

Why your support matters now
This is a critical window for change.

With the right support:
  • More schools can transition to equality-based patronage
  • More families can access inclusive education locally
  • Real choice can become a reality across Ireland
Without it, momentum could be lost and families will continue to have limited options.

What is an Educate Together school?
Educate Together schools are:
  • Equality-based: diverse worldviews are respected, and no single religion is prioritised over others.
  • Child-centred: putting children at the heart of decision-making at the school.
  • Democratically-run: active participation by parents, students, and teachers together.
  • Co-educational: equal opportunities at school for boys and girls; challenging gender inequality.

A proven model that works
Change is already happening.

In 2024, St. Mary’s Primary School successfully transferred to Educate Together patronage, becoming Paradise Place Educate Together National School a landmark moment for Irish education.

This shows what’s possible when communities are supported through the transition.

Help us make this happen across Ireland
Your donation will help us:
  • Support schools exploring patronage transfer
  • Provide guidance and resources to communities
  • Expand access to equality-based education nationwide
Every contribution, big or small, helps bring us closer to a more inclusive education system.

Please donate today and share this campaign
