Ten days ago, my oldest brother, Edward, suddenly experienced severe pain in his upper left leg and was rushed to the emergency room. After waiting nearly 24 hours in a hallway, he was taken into surgery and diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis—a rare, life-threatening infection that spreads rapidly. One surgery was not enough. Edward had to undergo two additional surgeries to remove infected tissue as doctors worked urgently to save his life.
Yesterday, we received the first bit of hopeful news: the infection is finally under control. Doctors believe he may be able to return home in the coming days. But this is only the beginning. Edward now faces a long, difficult road to recovery—physically, emotionally, and financially.
To know Edward is to love him. As the oldest of five children, he was our guide, our protector, and our quiet source of strength. He taught us how to read, helped with homework, took us on movie nights and drive-thru runs, and cared for each of us with patience and tenderness—despite our many different personalities.
Edward was born with spina bifida, a condition that many are told will severely limit their lives. He was told he would never walk—but he does. He was told he would never drive—but he does. He has never allowed his diagnosis to define or limit him. Instead, he’s worked hard every day, lived with purpose, and dedicated his life to serving God and others. If you’ve ever met Edward, you know how big his heart is. He is a truly good man who has endured more than most from the moment he was born.
Now, as he begins this long journey toward healing, I’m hoping to ease some of the burden he carries. Any support—whether through a donation, sharing this page, or keeping Edward in your prayers—means more than we can express. Thank you for helping us lift him up during this incredibly difficult time.
