6 month old Edison is fighting the biggest battle of his tiny life. What began as a terrifying medical emergency quickly turned into an ICU stay no family ever imagines —one marked by a fragile heart, dangerous arrhythmia’s, and days filled with fear, hope and relentless courage.
Edison was a healthy and happy little baby; an uncomfortable motherly instinct led him to the emergency room where they discovered he was in refractory SVT (supraventricular tachycardia). He was emergently transferred to Children’s Hospital of Michigan on Jan 28th as he was going into cardiogenic shock. He endured repeated life-saving interventions including cardioversion, CPR, multiple medication trials and mechanical ventilation.
At his sickest, he was placed on ECMO on Jan 29th — the most advanced form of life support to keep him alive for 5 critical days while his heart/lungs and body fought to recover. He was able to wean and come off ECMO without major complications on Feb 2nd and even removed from the ventilator later last week.
Through it all, Edison has shown remarkable strength. His parents have not left his side, navigating impossible decisions, sleepless nights, and the emotional weight of watching their baby fight for every heartbeat. In addition to keeping life as normal as possible for his big brother’s Raymond and Henry.
While Edison continues to receive expert medical care at Children’s Hospital, his journey is far from over. The cardiologist’s anticipate that he will likely live with cardiac arrhythmias throughout his childhood as he was also diagnosed with Wolf-Parkinson-White, a congenial heart condition involving the electrical pathways. He will require strong doses of an antiarrythmic medication. This will require ongoing monitoring, treatment and constant vigilance. The new reality brings not only emotional strain, but significant financial stress for the family.
We are raising funds to help ease the burden on Kim and Paul —supporting medical expenses, time away from work and daily living costs during this prolonged ICU journey. A portion of the funds will be set aside to begin planning for a medical alert dog, which could one day provide Edison with an added layer of safety and independence as he grows.
Every donation, share, and kind word helps this family focus on what matters most: helping Edison heal, grow and thrive. Thank you for standing with this brave little babe and the people who love him more than anything.
Edison continues to show progress everyday with hope to go home to his big brothers, mom and dad ❤️
