Dear Friends, Family, and Kind-Hearted Strangers,
This month we received devastating news. Edi, a beloved member of our family and a long-time patron of the Kāne’ohe community, has been diagnosed with throat cancer (metastatic squamous cell carcinoma originating in his tonsil that has spread to his lymph nodes). The diagnosis has come as a shock, but we're determined to support him through every step of this journey. As anyone who knows him would expect, his first concern wasn't for himself, it was making sure his family would be okay. He’s the first to offer a helping hand when someone’s stranded; the last to accept help for himself. But now he’s facing the fight of his life.
The road ahead will be challenging. Treatment will be intensive and lengthy, requiring multiple rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. The recovery process will keep him away from his work, where he's spent his life helping others, meaning he'll be unable to earn an income for an extended period.
Despite the gravity of his illness, Edi would never dream of asking for help; he’d rather be the one giving. But the reality is, the cost to survive cancer while trying to keep life going is overwhelming. We need to ease his burden so he can focus on what truly matters: healing.
How your gift will make a difference:
- Medical & treatment costs: Covering co-pays, medications, and specialist procedures that aren’t fully covered by insurance.
- Day-to-day expenses: Bridging the gap while he’s unable to work
- Comfort & care: Providing necessities and small comforts, a soft pillow, nourishing foods, and home health support.
Every dollar brings hope. Every share widens our circle of support. Together, we can lift this weight from his shoulders and allow him to channel his strength toward recovery.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for reading, donating, and sharing. Your kindness will fuel his fight, remind him he’s not alone, and give our family the breathing room we so desperately need.
We will continue to provide updates here, so everyone can follow along his journey.
With gratitude, hope, and Aloha,
Christina & Family
