The past few months have been incredibly difficult for this Schenk family. Their daughter, Edelweiss, has been diagnosed with neutropenia, a condition that leaves her with a dangerously low neutrophil count — meaning her body has little to no ability to fight infection.
At her lowest, Edelweiss’ neutrophil levels were zero. They have slowly increased to around 100, which gives hope, but for perspective, a normal count for a toddler ranges from 1,500 to 7,200. In the coming weeks, the family will be making several trips to Primary Children’s Hospital as doctors work to find answers and try new treatments.
Because of Edelweiss’ condition, daily life has changed completely. She is kept mostly at home and fairly quarantined to protect her from illness.
Despite the fear and uncertainty, the family continues to lean on their faith and trust in God’s plan. They are deeply grateful for the love, prayers, and support surrounding them and believe there are still many miracles ahead.
Between frequent hospital visits, medical expenses, travel, missed work, and the added costs of keeping Edelweiss safe, the financial burden has grown quickly. Any donation, no matter the size, will help ease that stress and allow the family to focus fully on caring for their sweet girl.
