My name is Kathryn(Kat), the spouse of Eddie. We have 2 beautiful children together Theo (will be 2 next month) and Isla (7 months). In November our family received news that Eddie’s platelets were extremely low, which resulted in an immediate hospital stay, playlet transfusion and tons of testing. Eddie was discharged days later with no diagnosis. We were just told to follow up with his oncologist/hematologist.
Fast forward a week later, Eddie was back in the hospital with low platelets and high white cell count. More tests were ran including a bone marrow biopsy. For days he received multiple IVIG transfusions with him being in the hospital for 5days. After weeks in and out of the hospital we were informed Eddie was diagnosed with Idiopathic ITP which is a rare bleeding disorder where the immune system mistakenly attacks, the blood platelets. Treatment for this is thousands of dollars. The injection alone is over $5,500 just for a month supply. Eddie will need months to years of treatment and possibly a port inserted. Eddie is currently back in the hospital receiving more IVIG transfusions and hopefully going to start NPlates.
Unfortunately insurance has been no help with covering the medication needed for treatment. Also with the new year starting he will have to meet his deductible all over again. This leaves me with no other option then to ask for help. If you know me you know I don’t ask for help with anything. Life has been rough lately, I am caring for both babies, while trying to work and keep our lives as normal as possible with out my childrens dad being home, along with trying to keep up with medical bills that just keep coming. With Eddie being sick I have had to take time off of work to stay with our children while he is in the hospital.
