Our dear friend, Ed Smit, who we all know and love as the laughing, joyful, generous, singing, playful, helpful community member, has been battling cancer for a few years. Unfortunately, his health has recently taken a turn for the worse and he was moved to hospice on June 12th.
It is at times like these that community can come together to support our friends as their medical and living bills accumulate. Please consider supporting Mary through this immensely difficult time... any amount helps.
This is from Mary:
Ed was just picking up prescriptions and made a decision to try a bike the day after he got released from Columbia for bone cancer (sacrum) pain. Next thing we knew he was in ICU at Weill Cornell with a traumatic brain injury, facial fractures and several blood transfusions. The injury exacerbated the cancer, and he got high calcium levels from the bone lesions which affected his brain. I’m afraid his cancer is worse.
