My name is Mary DeMento Wilmot and this is my husband, Earl Wilmot, story.
Earl is from the Pittsburgh Pa area. He moved to NY in the 1980s . He is a brother, father, husband, uncle, Papa and a great-papa. We married in 2004. Shortly after our wedding he had a heart attack that lead to a triple bypass. He recovered and we raised our family.
Fast forward to 2023, he had another heart attack. That's when things really started to go downhill. While getting a heart catherization the doctors placed a stent, it failed. He got another catherization and a new stent was inserted. Then he started retaining fluid, gained weight and coughed A Lot. He was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and a myocardial clip was placed to help slow down the fluid that filled around the heart. Since then he had 2 more catherizations.
Sadly the left side of his heart is failing. His entire heart only functions at 35% and that is the best it will be. Doctors gave him a pacemaker and defibrillator. But his symptoms are getting worse and now his kidneys are starting to be affected.
Earl has seen many doctors/specialists (all have been awesome) but now he has been referred to a doctor group in Kingston Ny. We were told another bypass is not possible. He needs to receive and LVAD (left ventricular artificial device) and/otr heart transplant. Surgery will be done in Westchester Medical Center (2.5hrs) away from where we live in Green Island Ny (outside of Albany Ny).
Earl hasn't worked since 2023. I am the only one working and he gets disability now. But now we face A LOT of expenses. Medical bills are increasing and now travel/lodging expenses are added to everything.
Earl is not a person who likes to sit still, so this is driving him nuts, not being able to work and do activities he loves. There's a lot more he wants to do and see. Graduations, births and weddings.
If anyone can help with expenses while he goes through this difficult
is appreciated.
