Dylan is a hometown boy, born at Onslow Memorial and raised in Carteret County all his life. He is a 2018 graduate of Croatan High School with a deep love for cars and motorcycles. Known for his sarcastic jokes and contagious laugh, Dylan has always brought joy to those around him.

Tragically, after leaving his family Christmas celebration, Dylan was hit and thrown from his motorcycle. He suffered extensive injuries and was lifeflighted to ECU, arriving just in time for emergency care. While being transferred to the ED stretcher, Dylan suffered a cardiac arrest and required a thoracotomy in the trauma bay—a procedure most do not survive. Miraculously, Dylan pulled through and underwent emergency surgery to stabilize him. He is currently in the ICU in critical but stable condition. Due to swelling in his neck and fractures of both sides of his jaw, a tracheostomy (breathing tube) had to be placed. He also has fractures of his neck, spine, right arm, hand, fingers, ankle, and foot, which are being repaired in stages. The road to recovery will be long, with an unknown amount of time in the hospital followed by months, possibly years, of therapy. While the full extent of his injuries is still unknown, Dylan has shown hopeful signs, and neurology is optimistic for his future.

Dylan’s parents have been by his side every step of the way, providing unwavering support. As Dylan faces a long recovery and is unable to return to work doing what he loves—fixing cars—we are asking for help to support him through his recovery and eventual rehabilitation.
