Support Dylan Stainback’s medical and life bills after second below the knee amputation.
Those of you that know Dylan, know he doesn’t typically ask for any handouts.
However, Dylan is needing your help so he can get back to being the fully active Dad and husband that he loves to be.
In September Dylan’s culture in his foot wound came back positive for two strands of staph.
Dylan had been fighting a wound for 9 months: one to two visits with wound care weekly, managing his diabetes appropriately, and visits with infectious disease. All while keeping an A1C of 6.7.
Dylan was prescribed an antibiotic that would attack the virus quickly. However, insurance denied this antibiotic. Insurance wanted him to try a “normal” antibiotic.
Dylan finished the antibiotic course, but the infection remained. He then started two separate antibiotics. Insurance still denying the needed antibiotics, and his wound at this time did not qualify him for hospitalization for IV antibiotics.
Dylan’s wound began to heal and show no signs of infection.
Weeks passed, then his wound began to grow from the inside out. This is almost always a sign of the infection reaching the bone.
An MRI showed that the infection had reached his bone before the lesser antibiotics, that insurance required, could stop the spread.
On 10/20 Dylan had his second leg amputated below the knee.
Dylan is now out of the hospital but is needing support to afford his ongoing medical bills, medical equipment, and general bills.
His wife, Julie, is on an extended FMLA to help care for him until appropriate equipment can be purchased and Dylan can gain independence and ability back while waiting to heal.
