Hello Everyone!
My name is Dykee, and I’m reaching out to my global community during a truly monumental moment in my life. I’ve just accepted a tenure-track faculty position at San José State University Libraries as the Digital and Data Literacy Librarian—a dream come true that I’ve worked toward for years. I'm moving to San José, California, to begin this new chapter, and I need your help to get there.
As many of you know, community care, educational equity, and transformative justice have been at the heart of my purpose since I was a teenager. That commitment has only deepened over the years, guiding me through every chapter—as a student, researcher, educator, and advocate.
A few months ago, I made the difficult decision to step away from my Ph.D. program at the University of Washington in Seattle. While I loved the research and the communities I built, I knew I couldn’t continue in a department where I felt disconnected, unsupported, and uninspired. It was a painful but necessary choice for my well-being and future. And now, a new door has opened.
At SJSU, I’ll be supporting students, building equitable digital learning environments, and designing programs that uplift marginalized voices in data and technology. But moving to the Bay Area is incredibly expensive, and relocation assistance was not possible from the SJSU library.
With that, I'm kindly asking for $5,500 to help cover:
- Moving costs and transportation
- Initial rent and deposit
- Furnishing a new home after living minimally during graduate school
- Basic necessities during the transition period before my first paycheck
Any contribution—big or small—will make a real difference. And if you can’t give financially, sharing this campaign with your networks would mean the world to me.
This journey has been anything but linear, but it has been filled with purpose. I carry my students, my mentors, my ancestors, and my community with me into this new role. I truly wouldn’t be here without you—and I hope you’ll walk with me into this next chapter.
With deep gratitude,
Dykee
