Support Dwight's Journey to Wisconsin
Donation protected
We came (to Hawaii), we saw (& fell in love), and now it’s time to conquer! The people have spoken!!!! So here’s a way to support sweet Dwight in becoming a Wisconsinite!!!! and part of our family. :) We absolutely know a dog is a financial obligation (we have two dogs already who are completely spoiled) but many wanted to help, so here we are!
Here’s the back story: The one thing I wanted to do for my 30th birthday was take a shelter dog from the Kauai Humane Society on a field trip for the day. Which is when we met 6 year old Dwight. When I say he was the absolute best dog, he really was. ☀️ Snuggled right up to us, loved to give kisses and we were the first field trip he’s had since being at the shelter. He got so many pets and love from others. A sweet girl (& her family from France) asked if he was a rescue dog so I explained what a field trip was and she said she knew he was a rescue dog from all his owies. We let him smell all the smells he could, visit the beach, do a little hike, and got him his own shaved ice. He slept peacefully in the backseat of the car while I rubbed his head and sobbed.
So - we can’t stop thinking about him and want him to be ours forever! We did not take this decision lightly and have been discussing this for the last few weeks. We are in the process of completing the adoption paperwork and the Kauai Humane Society has been amazing to work with. His adoption fee is $900 (which is reduced because we donated already and took him on a field trip). It includes shots, kennel for the plane, airfare, etc. He will fly from Kauai to Seattle and a rescue in Seattle picks him up from the airport, loves on him, gives him dinner, etc. for the night before he takes another flight. He will then fly to Milwaukee (figuring out flight details and a date still - flight isn’t booked quite yet).
Funds raised will go towards the adoption cost! If excess funds are raised they will go towards his Wisconsin vet bill. We are not vets, but seems he will need dental work done, we want his left eye looked at as it’s very discolored, and he has skin tags that we presume would be removed. He has multiple scars from his past life but they look to all be healed well. If we really blow this out of the park, we will absolutely make a donation to the Kauai Humane Society on behalf of Dwight.
I have been overwhelmed by all the love my friends and family have shared. I have never made a Go Fund Me (and honestly feel a bit strange about it!), but so many people have expressed wanting to help.
We (Dwight, Bri, Jake, Basil & Odie) thank anyone taking the time to read this. You’re all part of his family and journey. Let us know if you ever want to help dog sit - 3 dogs is no joke but we love them. we of course are hoping all goes smoothly and all the dogs get along.
We do plan to keep his name as Dwight. After consulting with Google, Dwight means heavenly (which he is) and means mountainous lands (which we believe he was living in the mountains for many years of his life). So it’s quite fitting. ❤️ We did learn for some time in his life he lived with 4 other dogs and unfortunately they were all surrendered to the shelter at the same time.
See you soon Dwight! ✈️
