On July 28th, our very best friend of 40+ years, Maryann Smith, received news that her husband, Dwight, has stage 4 metastatic lung cancer. While the cancer is primarily in his left lung, his right lung is partially collapsed and has made the simple act of breathing very difficult for Dwight. So much so, that he had to be admitted to the hospital. After several tests, the doctors determined that the cancer has spread to his bones and brain. The tumors are inoperable, and his DNA was not a match for the preferred treatment, leaving his only option as chemotherapy and radiation. After a week-long hospital stay, Dwight is now at home, but still struggling with his breathing and has a lot of pain. His first visit with the oncologist is this week, when we will learn more about his prognosis, but he has not been able to work for several weeks now, and will likely not be able to work again for a lengthy period of time.

Dwight and Maryann need our help. They are two of the most loving and giving people we have ever known and have opened their hearts and home to many over the years that we have known them.
