Help a Father Fight Stage 4 Cancer

Life can change in an instant.

I’m a father, a friend, brother, and until a few years ago, I lived a full, active life—spending

summer days gardening, landscaping my yard, woodworking and crafting, traveling when I

could, and doing my best to enjoy every moment with my family.

Then everything changed. I was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, just days before my

50th birthday.

I fought hard going to treatment and was moving forward—but after two surgeries and

continuing chemotherapy, the cancer returned and spread to my kidney, lungs and liver. Now,

more than two years later, the physical and emotional toll has become overwhelming, and the

financial burden has become impossible to manage.

The cost of ongoing cancer treatment, medications, procedures, and related medical

expenses, has drained my life's savings and my health condition prohibits me from returning

to work. Due to a tremendous increase in health insurance, my fixed income disability check

is now less than my insurance bill. Despite doing everything I can, the mounting bills continue

to grow, and I am forced to choose between helping my family with basic living costs such as

mortgage, utilities and food, or holding on to my health insurance to continue treatment and

focus on fighting for my life.

I want nothing more than to keep fighting, to be here for my family and friends and to continue

creating memories with them.

Asking for help is not easy—but it’s necessary. I have been told that most patients at my

current stage of this diagnosis can expect to live six to twelve months. I still plan on fighting to

beat those odds and win this battle, but I don't want to spend whatever time I have left

focusing on the financial burden the disease continues to cause. The donations I am asking

for will help to cover a year of my medical expenses. Furthermore, they will provide a

priceless peace-of-mind for me and my family that we will not be forced to choose between

paying my medical bills or for our daily living expenses such as mortgage and utilities.
