Support Dwane Truong's Road to Recovery
Donation protected
Hi friends, many of you may know this by now, but our dear friend Dwane Truong was injured in a biking accident over Memorial Day weekend that resulted in a T4 to T9 spinal fracture. He is currently stable and recovering after surgery and a stint in the ICU. He is currently diagnosed with a complete spinal injury and paralysis from the chest down due to the loss of sensory and motor abilities, but we are hopeful that he will one day recover some of his functions back. He is currently recovering at Casa Colina Rehab in Pomona with rehab and physical therapy.

On a personal note, Dwane has been someone I’ve known and considered one of my closest friends for about half my life. Receiving this news came as a shock because I couldn’t even imagine something so terrible happening to someone I care about so deeply. I always made it a point to see him when I visited LA and it meant an immense amount to me when he swung through NY, whether he was sleeping on my couch, floor, or in more recent years his hotels. I have extremely fond memories, especially of the times he'd pick me up every Sunday morning to play basketball together in high school. That there’s the likelihood he won’t be able to move about the world and experience his life the same way again is hard to fathom. And if there’s anything we can all do collectively to help make his life more comfortable to live and to assist his family in this, I know it would be deeply appreciated.

We all have our version of Dwane that we see. The one I know is a fiercely loyal LA sports fan, a friend who always visits, and a guy who continuously picks up new hobbies. I remember Jeff and I attended Dwane’s first Dodgers game with him. In that first game, he got a Cody Bellinger jersey. When Dwane gets into something, he dives in head first. The same happened with cycling. And to hear the news of the accident and how one of the hobbies he learned to love caused such harm, it guts me. I don’t want this accident to take away from the other hobbies he collected along the way that bring him joy. Any contribution that helps him and his family bring back any amount of that joy, I cannot thank you enough.

Donations will be used to contribute to costs associated with medical bills and modifying his family’s home to be more wheelchair accessible (ramps, stairlifts, etc).
Thank you all so much for taking the time and please keep Dwane in your thoughts as he undergoes the next steps in his recovery.
