Dusty’s Story <3
Wednesday Sep 24th, my parents took Dusty, who they just took in a month ago to give him a forever home. decided to take dusty to South Shore Equine Clinic to get Scoped after my mom noticed some concerning behaviors, dusty would often be coughing and looking like he was having a hard time eating his food. At that point my mom quickly made a vet appointment to have a complete work-up done on Dusty and having a scope done.
Unfortunately, the diagnosis wasn't great, they found he has Entrapped Epiglottis, the worst they had seen, REQUIRING Major Surgery/ possibly a Trachea
. Entrapped Epiglottis is a condition where the Epiglottis, a flap of cartilage that covers the windpipe (Trachea) during swallowing, becomes trapped in the aryepiglottic folds, the tissue that surrounds it, causing Respiratory difficulties
Surgery is Dusty’s only option to get a sense of normality back in his life, to breathe properly and to consume his food properly. Please consider donating to his cause as anything would be helpful.
My parents, who have taken in rescue horses over the last 10 years, never ask for help. They take in the ones who need a forever loving home out of the goodness of their hearts and are known in the community for their loyalty to specifically those horses that are older and need a last soft landing and to be loved and well cared for.
My parents do have 6 other rescue horses aside from Dusty, so a major surgery is a huge undertaking for them, which is why I am reaching out to our amazing horse community for some help. Please share with friends or family and let's see if we can help Dusty get his surgery sooner rather than later.
Thank you!!!
