On Christmas Day, Dusty was in a life-threatening car accident and was medivaced to Queen’s Hospital, where he was admitted to the ICU. He sustained a head injury, heart injury, broken facial bones, and a broken arm—injuries that required surgery and intensive care. By the grace of God and in Jesus’ name, Dusty made it through the most critical surgery—his heart. While doctors continue extensive imaging and closely monitor his condition, a blood clot was discovered in his lung, requiring months of blood thinners, medications, and ongoing care. After enduring heavy pain medications, doctors have slowly begun lowering them while Dusty remains in the ICU, allowing them to carefully monitor his progress as he begins the long recovery process, with focus on his breathing, motor skills, and comprehension. Dusty will also need ongoing physical therapy, and doctors estimate approximately four months for a full recovery. With continued imaging, medications, medical equipment, physical therapy, and possible additional procedures, the total cost of medical care is still unknown.
We are sharing this for those who have asked how they can help. Any support will help cover medical expenses, transportation and lodging for family staying by Dusty’s side on Oʻahu, as well as home-care needs, medical equipment, sanitation supplies, physical therapy, and follow-up transportation once he returns home to Maui.
With hearts full of gratitude, we thank God for every prayer lifted, every check-in, and every call and message shared for Dusty and his family. Each word, each prayer, and each act of love has been felt and is part of the miracle unfolding in Dusty’s life right now. Thank you for standing with Dusty and his family as we walk this journey of healing with faith, hope, and gratitude.
