Help Us Start Our Family – Our IVF Journey with an Egg Donor

Hello, my name is Dustin Gunderson, and my wife’s name is Sara Gunderson.

Starting a family has always been our dream, but our journey to get there has been filled with heartbreak, hope, and determination. For years, we didn’t understand why we couldn’t conceive—until we learned that my wife’s fallopian tubes were blocked. She bravely underwent surgery in hopes of repairing them, but doctors were only able to get one tube partially working.

We then turned to Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), but despite everything being medically “perfect,” we still couldn’t conceive. During that time, we were blessed once with a natural pregnancy—not through IUI—but that joy ended too soon when, at six weeks, we learned our baby had stopped growing. Watching my wife endure that miscarriage was absolutely heartbreaking.

I watched the toll it took on her—the emotional pain, the physical exhaustion, and the moments when she wanted to give up. She once said, “Maybe we just aren’t meant to have children.” But I refused to let her lose hope. I told her that we would find a way—and that’s when we began our IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) journey.

Sara went through countless injections, medications, and procedures. During egg retrieval, doctors were able to collect 18 eggs. Out of those, 10 successfully fertilized, and 6 developed into embryos. We were so hopeful—until we received the devastating news that all 6 embryos were abnormal, meaning we couldn’t move forward to the transfer phase.

After that painful setback, we made the difficult but hopeful decision to move forward with an egg donor. This gives us our best chance of finally becoming parents and holding our baby in our arms someday.

Unfortunately, IVF and egg donor treatments are incredibly expensive. Our goal is to raise $30,000 to cover the remaining costs of IVF treatments, donor fees, medications, and related medical expenses.
