On Saturday May 16, 2026, Durran Riley aka Toot was standing on the corner of 85th and International Blvd with a group of close friends and family when a reckless driver plowed full speed into the pedestrians. The driver continued up the block and ran over multiple other people, leaving 3 dead and many more critically injured. Durran was rushed to Highland Hospital where he had emergency surgery to save his life. He was left with multiple fractures in his left leg, a broken femur in his right leg, a punctured lung, fractured elbow, multiple broken ribs, and many more injuries. He has been hospitalized ever since.

When he is well enough, he will be transferred to an inpatient rehabilitation facility where he will learn to walk again and reclaim his life. He needs to heal mentally, emotionally, and physically as he learns that he was left there to die by a person who decided to take his family car without permission and joyride recklessly up and down the busy street. After he hit and killed many, he decided to run until community members caught him and brought him back to face what he did until the police arrived. This 17-year-old person was arrested at the scene.

Durran will be in rehab for months. He will not be able to work and needs help with finances along the way. His car was totaled in this violent crime. He needs help with rent and other bills to maintain his home and to pay for other expenses that will arise for him during this journey. He needs to replace his car and the rehab facility has a significant copay, which will be a major expense. He is a very well-known and respected member of this community where he was born and raised. He lost a lot of people close to him due to this senseless crime.
