It is with great sadness that we announce that on December 10th, 2020, our dad, Feisa Abdi, peacefully passed away after many years of suffering from dementia. Our father was deeply loved and respected by all who knew him. He was caring, loving, passionate, and jumped at the opportunity to help others without ever expecting anything in return. Born in Kobo Bora, Assela, Ethiopia, Feisa served in the Ethiopian military with stints in Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Russia. He was fluent in 5 languages: Afaan Oromoo, Amharic, English, French, and Russian. He moved to Sudan for a few years before coming to the United States to attend Humboldt State University in Eureka, California. He graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. After graduating he moved to his permanent residence of San Jose, California which would become our birthplace.
Our dad was a constant presence in our lives always taking us to and from school, taking us to the park and library, teaching us about sports and taking us to all our games, and reminding us about the importance of education. Through his actions, he made it painstakingly obvious how much he loved and cared for us. Even through difficult times, he always showed up. He was a never-ending well of knowledge and stories, always willing to share to whoever had an open ear.
All money raised will go to help support us during this difficult time. The funeral has already been covered for us graciously by the Muslim community our father belonged to. Eyob and I are currently the only ones able to work during the pandemic and without help we would have to go back to work without having the proper time to grieve our loss. Expenses include rent, essential monthly bills, and food as well as money to send to our dad’s family back home in Ethiopia. We would also like to upgrade our dad’s tombstone to one that reflects the impact that he had on this earth.
We would like to thank everyone who has reached out and offered us their kind words and prayers. It means the world to us to know so many people are here behind us and supporting us emotionally during this difficult time.
