This is a bit vulnerable for me to share, but I truly need support right now.

I’m an elementary teacher and have been part of this school community for the past three years. This year, I stepped into the role of union representative while also going back to school to earn my Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction. I care deeply about education, my students, and advocating for what our schools and children deserve.

Our union voted to strike because we are fighting for better learning conditions for students and fair working conditions for educators. This includes issues like adequate staffing, manageable class sizes, student support services, and pay that reflects the cost of living in the Bay Area so educators can continue serving the communities that need us most. This decision was not made lightly — it’s about protecting the quality of education and support our students receive every day.

Because of my role as union representative, I cannot cross the picket line, and I am responsible for helping lead our school through the strike. The hard part is — I have no idea how long this will last. During this time, I will be losing pay, but my rent, bills, and school expenses don’t pause.

Living in the Bay Area is already a financial challenge, and I don’t have anyone supporting me financially — it’s just me. I’m doing work I believe in with my whole heart, but it comes with real sacrifices.
