Hi, my name is Emi. I’m 25 years old and was working full time before being unexpectedly hospitalized in December.
On December 18, I went to urgent care and was immediately sent to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where I was admitted that same day. Shortly after, I was transferred once within the Jackson system to a larger, more specialized hospital for further care.
On December 26, I was officially diagnosed with B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and began chemotherapy immediately.
I have remained hospitalized since December 18 and am currently completing the induction phase of treatment, with my last inpatient chemotherapy scheduled for January 22. After a bone marrow biopsy and review of results, I will begin the next phase of treatment (consolidation), which is expected to last 5–7 months and will involve repeated hospital stays. At this time, it is unclear when I will be able to return to work.
Before my diagnosis, my mom and I both worked full time and shared household responsibilities. Since my hospitalization, my mom has paused work to act as my full-time caregiver during treatment, resulting in a sudden loss of income.
This fundraiser is intended to help cover essential living expenses such as rent, insurance, utilities, transportation, and basic necessities, while also offsetting the loss of income while my mom has been my caregiver. This will allow me to focus on my health and returning to work when medically able. I also have a 5-year-old son who is currently being cared for by my relatives thankfully, while I undergo treatment.
Any support, including sharing this page, is sincerely appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to read.
