After nearly eight years with my company, I was recently laid off unexpectedly. While I’ve applied for unemployment, there’s a 3–4 week gap before those benefits begin—and in the meantime, I’m facing several urgent expenses. I recently experienced a health scare that led to medical bills, along with additional testing I need to complete as soon as possible. I’m also trying to stay current on my car payment and registration so I don’t lose my transportation, which is critical as I actively search for a new full-time job. On top of that, a few unexpected bills have come up at the worst possible time.
