My name is Derek Currier and I am a Fire Fighter / Paramedic for Dunedin Fire Rescue. We serve the city of Dunedin, FL which is on the Gulf coast of Florida and about 20 miles west of Tampa, FL. I am raising funds for our Fire Fighter Challenge League team. These funds will allow us to compete in what's been dubbed as the "Toughest 2 Minutes In Sports" with departments from all over the country. The Firefighter Challenge consists of 5 Firefighting Evolutions :

1. 5 story stair climb with 42 lb. high rise pack

2. 42 lb. Hose Roll Hoist

3. Keiser Forcible Entry

4. Hose Advance and attack

5. 165 lb Rescue Randy victim drag

Our firefighters compete individually, as a tandem team, as a relay team, and as a Fire Department all at the same event. This season we are planning on attending the Season Opener in Indianapolis, The Northeast Region Competition in Erie, PA and the National Championships in Oklahoma City.

Our firefighters are not only protecting their city and community but are training in their off time to compete and hone their skills. The extra training not only helps them compete, but it hones their skills for their everyday duties. Our firefighters use their own vacation and leave time to attend these events and cover their own cost of travel and lodging.

I personally competed in these events last season in 2024 by myself, with the goal of building a team. This year I have more firefighters coming with me to compete and even more competing in the future. My overall goal is to build an amazing team of firefighters who want to raise the standard and represent Dunedin Fire Rescue as a formidable force on the competition course and on the fire ground!!!! Funds raised will go towards the purchase of airfare and lodging for our firefighters to attend these events. This will allow more firefighters to be able to afford to compete, enhance their teamwork, and experience the best of the camaraderie of the fire service.

The most amazing part of these events are the efforts of the Fire Fighter Challenge League staff who live stream and announce EVERY competition and race for FREE!!!! This allows our families, friends, fans, fellow firefighters, and YOU to actually watch us compete LIVE!!!!!. Here is an example of the live stream from last year's competition:
