Dumpling suffered blockage and was in severe pain yesterday. He couldn't urinate or defecate and was vomiting profusely... Last night, he was rushed to the emergency room. Had I waited any longer, it would've been lethal for him. He was quickly drained, and for the next 48 hours, he will be in the ICU with a catheter and IV fluids being pumped into him. His blood results came back with high levels of blood urea nitrogen (BUN) at 130 - the normal healthy amount being 30. His creatinine was at 18 and needs to be brought down to 2. These high levels in his kidney valves are life-threatening for him, and he may need more than 48 hours in the ICU. There is still blood in his urine, and the vets are unsure if he will be able to urinate on his own without the help of the catheter. If this is the case, Dumpling will need emergency PU surgery. The vet bills are quickly adding up; just in a 24-hour period, his care has added up to $4,275. Every 24 hours is another $1,000. If he were to need surgery, the estimated cost they gave me is around $6,000-$10,000. I'm worried I won't be able to get him the care that he needs. Dumpling is a very sweet boy, and anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting him knows how special he is.
