Duke has always been more than just a dog—he’s family. At five years old, this loyal, loving Cane Corso has been by Shaughn’s side through everything, offering comfort, protection, and unconditional love every single day.
Recently, Duke was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, an aggressive and painful bone cancer. The tumor is located in his right radius, and without treatment, the prognosis is heartbreaking—he may only have 6 to 12 months left. Even more devastating, the tumor will eventually weaken his bone to the point where it could suddenly break, at which time the only humane option would be immediate euthanasia.
Shaughn is doing everything he can to prevent that outcome.
The primary treatment option available is amputation of the affected leg. While this won’t cure the cancer, it is considered a palliative procedure that can significantly improve Duke’s quality of life. Removing the tumor would relieve the intense pain Duke is currently experiencing—pain that requires multiple medications throughout the day just to manage. It would also reduce the risk of a catastrophic fracture and give Duke the chance to live out his remaining time more comfortably, with dignity and joy.
Dogs are incredibly resilient, and many adapt well to life on three legs. With the surgery, Duke could still enjoy walks, time with his family, and the simple happiness he’s always brought to those around him.
The challenge is the cost.
The surgery itself is expensive, and it’s only part of what’s needed. Shaughn will also need to take time off work to care for Duke during recovery, and there will be additional expenses for mobility aids, follow-up care, and ongoing support to ensure Duke can adjust safely and comfortably.
This is where we are asking for help.
Any contribution—no matter the size—will go directly toward giving Duke relief from his pain and more time with the people who love him. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page would mean just as much.
Duke has given Shaughn years of loyalty and love. Now we’re hoping to give him the comfort, care, and compassion he deserves in return.
Thank you for taking the time to read Duke’s story and for any support you can offer.
