Trying to turn this long story short.
My wife's uncle and I bought our house in 2018. In 2024, his father, my wife's grandfather, passed away, and he had to move out to live with and take care of his mother. I immediately contacted the bank and let them know that the household income had gone from three incomes to two. Unable to keep up with the mortgage, we ended up losing the house to foreclosure.
The house sold at sheriff sale on 10/31/24. We then, in the redemption period, sold it for more than the sheriff sale to a company through a real estate agent who we will call Karen. Karen promised to be flexible and give us extra time in our house if need be. She also agreed to help us find a rental because she said we "wouldn't qualify to buy."
We were repeatedly lied to and sent properties outside our price range or that didn't accept pets. She repeatedly asked us to rehome our animals even though we've told her that would not be an option. She then offered a trailer on a plot of land up north without running water or power. When we told her we both work from home and I need a CPAP to sleep, she responded with "at least it's a roof." Even though we were offered a flexible move-out date, several days before May 1st, she tried to force us to get a pod to put our stuff in even though we had no place to go.
Meanwhile, my wife had been working on her credit and was in talks with an agent as her name had not been on the mortgage. She was told she could qualify, and she began looking at houses.
Once Karen found out that there might be some money to be made off of us, she instantly jumped in and tried to take over. We told her we did not want to work with her anymore. She called Schauna's agent and the seller and started talking badly about us. She also claimed exclusivity, which meant we couldn't work with this other agent until we severed ties with Karen, costing us almost 2 weeks. We were finally able to sever ties with Karen and start working on getting the house.
However, Karen had once again lied, and the move-out date wasn't as flexible as she had made it appear to be. The buyer (who is a very nice guy) had investors who told him that they either needed to take over the house on the 13th or they would have to evict us, which would mess with us buying a new house. We rented a truck and loaded our house and went to stay at a hotel (along with our pets, God bless this hotel) until we could meet the seller and sign the paperwork. We both ended up having to take a leave of absence from work since we work from home and we can't do our jobs from a hotel room.
We've now been informed that the seller has had a family emergency and had to leave town, and the real estate agent cannot get a hold of them. We are at a hotel with our truck full of all of our stuff. The hotel costs per day and the truck costs per day. If this goes on much longer, it's going to start cutting into the down-payment money, making us unable to buy the house.
We are just looking for a little bit of help to keep paying the hotel room and the truck rental while we talk to our real estate agents about either finding a way to get a hold of the seller or, if need be, finding a new house.
We absolutely hate asking but appreciate any help that anyone can provide.
Thank you
