My name is Vincent Lathrop. My wife, Dria, went to the emergency room after leaving work in severe pain. After several hours of tests we were told that they found a very large (9 cm) pancreatic cyst. After several weeks of testing and about a dozen specialists and doctor appointments later, the cyst was biopsied and it was determined to be precancerous and very high risk.

On Tuesday, September 9th, she had a partial distal pancreatectomy, where they removed the precancerous cyst, around 1/3 of her pancreas, spleen, splenic artery, and a small part of her stomach. They sent samples to pathology to determine if it was all precancerous or if any cancer cells were present. The results will take 1-2 weeks. If it does show cancer cells then she will need chemotherapy.

This has been a very difficult time for us both financially and emotionally. Due to the complex nature and severity of her diagnosis, and now the recovery from surgery, she has been unable to work. It has been difficult to pay bills and travel expenses for her appointments and hospital stay.

We have always been reluctant to ask for help, but the outpouring of love and support over the past few months has shown us that it’s okay to let others help when we truly need it.
