Support Drew Schulzki-Hessler's brain surgery recovery fund

Hi all,

It was a difficult decision to choose to create this fundraiser, but I am out of options and needing some help. As soon as possible, I will be undergoing an urgent craniotomy (open brain surgery) to remove a cavernous malformation from my temporal lobe. This mass is causing my brain to hemorrhage and I have developed frequent seizures as a result. Other medical interventions have failed to stop the bleeding, and surgery is my only option left to prevent further damage to my brain.

I will need to take 6 weeks away from my beloved job as a special education teacher after surgery to begin my recovery. This leave will be unpaid, so I will have no income until I am able to return to work. I am humbly requesting that you consider contributing to this surgery fund so that I can continue to pay my rent and utility bills, and to feed my precious cat Rascal (picture enclosed!).
