We are Zack and Lindsay Price, and we have been together for eight years. We began dating in April 2012, and in November of that same year, I found out that I have Premature Ovarian Failure. I had just turned 21 years old, and when I got this news, my only question to my doctor was: “Can I have kids?” He said that he wasn’t sure how to tell me, due to my very young age, but that I would be unable to have children on my own. I was devastated.
Even after this tragic news, my desire to have my own child was fierce. Zack and I were married on September 2, 2017. We adopted our furbabies soon after; we became parents to Paisley in December 2017, and Princeton in February 2019. Both were adopted from the Humane Society of Indianapolis; they are bully breeds and are sweet as can be, but due to the stigmas around their breed, many people are afraid to adopt them and other dogs like them. They were homeless and unwanted and needed a Mommy, and I knew I could be that for them. I was also hoping it would quell my need for a child of my own, but even though Paisley and Princeton filled a void in my heart, there was still a piece missing.
Zack and I recently tried to adopt a baby. We hired lawyers, had home visits and did mountains of paperwork. We spent thousands of dollars and even fully decorated the nursery in our home, so excited that it would soon be filled with love and happiness. However, the month before our baby girl was born, the birth mother changed her mind. We were, and are, completely devastated. However, we have gathered ourselves back up and are trying to find a path forward to completing our little family.
To this end, we are exploring the IVF process. We have found an out-of-state doctor that can help us for a fraction of the cost charged by local doctors. Even so, the process itself comes at a steep price. We are trying to cover these costs, but our bank account was decimated by the failed adoption. Lindsay is currently pursuing a part-time job with a company that will cover a large portion of the IVF costs, but hiring has been slowed dramatically by the coronavirus, and that job is still waiting to happen.
We were hesitant to start this GoFundMe - there are SO many people in need. However, our friends a few houses down urged us to do this. We have included a message from them:
“We met Zack and Lindsay and their furbabies back in April, just after they moved here. We instantly fell in love with their dogs, and felt an immediate friendship with them. We learned of their story and how they desire to be parents to a child, and we felt a strong stirring to help. We have prayed on this for the last few weeks, and felt led to start helping our friends by setting up a GoFundMe. We know them and we know their hearts, and we have seen the way they parent their dogs. We also know how tender, protective and loving Paisley and Princeton are to their human cousins. We know Zack and Lindsay will be amazing parents to a little one, and we want to help them achieve this goal.” - Pat and Jami Renwick
Again, we know that there are many people in need. However, after much thought, we feel that a GoFundMe could help us achieve our dream of a baby of our own. We thank you for reading our story, and we appreciate your donations, thoughts and prayers as we continue our journey to parenthood. Thank you! - Zack, Lindsay, Paisley and Princeton
