Hello everyone, I’m honored and excited to share that I have officially earned my Ph.D — I’m now Dr. V.
What many people may not know is that this journey took seven years, from my master’s degree to my doctoral degree. It has been a long, demanding, and deeply transformative path. There were moments of challenge, sacrifice, and persistence, but I remained committed because I knew this work was bigger than me. This degree is not just a personal milestone. It is a commitment. It is a commitment to the Signing DeafBlind community — a community whose language, experiences, and identities are too often overlooked, misunderstood, and marginalized.
Throughout my academic journey, I have focused on examining language, power, and representation in Deaf Education, and I am determined to carry that work beyond academia and into the community. As I step into this next chapter, I am intentionally taking up to a year to focus on work that centers advocacy, storytelling, and connection.
I am raising funds to support my mission of amplifying the voices of the Signing DeafBlind community. This work is deeply personal to me, and I am committed to increasing representation and visibility for DeafBlind individuals on social media and beyond. My goal is to ensure that their stories are not only told, but respected, valued, and centered in every space possible.
To make this mission possible, I need support in several key areas. I am seeking funds for equipment like a camera and a new laptop, which will allow me to document, produce, and share high-quality content that truly reflects the experiences of the Signing DeafBlind community. Travel and accommodation support will help me connect directly with individuals, families, and communities across the country. I am also dedicated to hosting and participating in speaking engagements for parents of DeafBlind children, educators, and the broader Deaf Education community. Finally, sustaining my own well-being is essential so I can continue this work with the energy and focus it deserves.
This is about more than content creation. This is about access, language, and equity. Your support will allow me to fully dedicate my time and energy to this work without the immediate pressure of financial barriers. Every contribution—no matter the amount—directly supports this mission and helps create space for voices that deserve to be seen and heard. If you are unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser is just as meaningful and appreciated. Thank you for believing in me, supporting my journey, and standing with the Signing DeafBlind community.
