Support Dr Nev's Quest to Conquer ALL (Leukemia)!!

In April 2019, summer was right around the corner and was looking to be an especially great summer for Nev.  After 8 years since starting his quest to achieve Doctor status, the conclusion of his PhD was finally within grasp.  Nev was already listing the things he would be doing once his PhD was finished.  Things like climbing, mountain biking, cave diving, and wrestling alligator’s. Unfortunately, the day he found out he passed his PhD with minor revisions was the day his health took a turn for the worse.  It started with unexplainable fatigue and extreme pain in his shoulder and hip.  After a few days, Nev went to the doctor and was told his platelet count was extremely low.  Nev had a follow up appointment the next week, but his condition worsened over the weekend which led to his first visit to the ER.  After a few days in the hospital the top suspect was myelofibrosis which is fatal without a bone marrow transplant.  A few days later, Nev was out of the hospital and back to himself.  For a couple weeks we were all hopeful it was just a fluke, maybe a virus, but a bone marrow biopsy in a few weeks would tell.  Unfortunately, Nev’s high streak didn’t last long.  Within a few weeks his symptoms returned with a vengeance, and he dragged himself to the hospital once again.  A few days and many tests later, he finally had a diagnosis…. Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).  Nev took the news better than anyone could have imagined.  At least now he had an answer and he was determined to fight it with everything he had.  Seeing Nev in the next few months was nothing short of an inspiration.  Despite the rough road ahead of him, he remained as positive and optimistic as one could possibly be.  Sure he had bad days, but despite the bad hand he was dealt, somehow it still seemed like his main goal was to continue putting smiles on people’s faces.  This was evident in his posts of his daily goals, playing piano in the lobby, and his not so subtle instructions left for the surgeons.

While his charm and charisma may have been enough to win over the nursing staff, unfortunately it wasn’t a match for the insurance company.  While Nev is covered by health insurance and short term disability insurance, we often forget about the high out of pocket costs  while still trying to cover normal day to day expenses on 60% of your normal income.  Not to mention the battles with the insurance companies on what is and isn’t covered, Uber rides to and from the hospital, and multiple roundtrip plane tickets from Australia so Nev’s parents could come to the US to take care of him.  With all these extra expenses piling up several of us had the idea to start a GoFundMe for Nev since we believe the last thing he should have to worry about is how he is going to pay for his battle with cancer.  If you know Nev, you likely also know how far out of his way he would go to help a friend in need.  Please consider helping Nev during his time of need, no amount is too small.
