The Bias family is deeply saddened to announce the passing of their matriarch, the beloved Dr. Lonise P. Bias, who passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at the age of 77. Dr. Bias passed away at home surrounded by family.
Dr. Bias is known for turning pain into purpose through her deep faith in God. After the death of her son Len,the University of Maryland College Basketball Hall of Famer, followed by the death of her second son, Jay, Dr. Bias inspired and empowered audiences all over the world to press through difficult times.
Her slogan, “Hope is not Extinct and the Best is yet to Come” will live on in the hearts and minds of all who were touched by her magnificent voice and transformed life! She was a champion and lived to awaken the champion in everyone she encountered.
Dr. Bias was a respected minister, leader, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, mentor and friend.
She is survived by her loving husband James, with whom she shared over 60 years of marriage; daughter, Michelle Bias-Harris; son, Eric Bias; grandchildren, Richard Jr., Jaylen, Kathryn, Myles, Keli and Jasmine.
Dr. Bias was founder of The Bias Foundation, a non-profit organization that was birthed after the death of Dr. Bias’ two sons Len and Jay.
She believed her two sons were two seeds that went down into the ground to bring forth life.
Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. (John 12:24)
