Support Dr. Gilbert Portugal's Battle Against Cancer

Hi, my name is Jessica, I am one of the daughters of Dr. Gilbert Portugal. Many of you may know Dr. Portugal as one of the main Lake Forest Chiropractors for the past 30+ years. He may also be known for coaching mine and my sister’s soccer and softball teams and volunteering in our school activities. In January 2024, my dad was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome which falls into the category of Leukemia. The past few months have consisted of weekly blood transfusions, along with Chemotherapy and many trips to Cedars Sinai.

On May 22, he is set to undergo a bone marrow transplant to help rid his body of the cancer and form new and healthy stem cells. With this transplant, he has to be isolated almost completely for a few months and will not be able to resume normal activities for at least one year. While he is in the first 100 days of recovery, he needs to live within one hour from the hospital per Cedars Sinai, as he will have several doctors appointments weekly. We are asking for any financial contribution to get our family through living between two homes, the gas, the rent, medical bills, groceries, dog daycare, etc. If you are unable to financially contribute at this time, please do keep our family in your prayers as we navigate the long road ahead of us.
