Ezequiel Veliz is an award-winning physician from Venezuela who has dedicated his career to serving medically underserved communities in Texas. In 2025, he was recognized as the best resident doctor at UT Health, Rio Grande Valley, where he cared for patients suffering from chronic illnesses like diabetes and hypertension. Ezequiel came to the United States legally and has always complied with immigration requirements, submitting all necessary paperwork on time with the help of his lawyer.

However, due to a recent federal visa pause, Ezequiel’s work permit renewal was halted, and he was unexpectedly detained by Border Patrol in April 2026. He is currently being held in a crowded and unsanitary facility in McAllen, Texas, with little access to communication or information. His husband, Joseph Williams, is experiencing severe mental anguish, feeling helpless as Ezequiel faces the uncertainty of the immigration system. Despite Joseph’s efforts to raise awareness through major news outlets, they are still in urgent need of support.

We are trying to raise at least $20,000. The funds raised will go directly toward legal fees, potential bond costs, and essential expenses for Ezequiel and Joseph during this crisis. If the worst happens and Ezequiel is deported, these funds will help him survive and rebuild. Please consider supporting Ezequiel and Joseph in their fight for justice and stability. Your generosity can make a real difference in their lives.
