Dear Friends,
It is with a heavy heart and a deep sense of loss that we reach out to you to share the devastating news of the passing of our dear friend and brilliant mind, Dr. Amit Kumar at the young age of 45. He left us on December 9th, 2023, after battling with a rare and aggressive form of Brain Cancer - Glioblastoma. We lost an exceptional individual whose impact extended beyond his family to the world of academia and research. He was an alumnus of:
- Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), USA (Research Faculty)
- Purdue University, USA (Ph.D. and PostDoc)
- Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, Mumbai, India (M.Tech)
- Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology (MIT, Muzaffarpur), Bihar, India (B. Tech)
- Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Supaul and Narla, India
Amit's Legacy:
Dr. Amit Kumar, currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Texas San Antonio (UTSA), dedicated his life to pioneering research. His contributions in the field of Transportation Engineering and Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure are showcased through his extensive body of work (Linkedin Profile and Amit's research publications ), left an indelible mark on the environment and the planet. His untimely departure is not only a personal loss to his family but also a great loss to the academic and research communities.
The Family Left Behind:
Dr. Amit was not just the sole breadwinner of his family; he was the pillar and the glue that held them together. Survived by his 63-year-old mother, grieving homemaker wife Preeta, and two beautiful children (an 11-year-old daughter and a 4-year-old preschooler son), Dr. Amit Kumar’s family now faces an unprecedented emotional and financial burden. The tragedy is further exacerbated by the fact that Dr. Amit had lost his father to liver cancer just three years ago, making him the backbone of the family.
The Financial Struggle:
While family, friends, fellow alumni, and colleagues from MIT (through the alumni association MITMAAI), IIT, Purdue University, Georgia Tech, JNV and UTSA have rallied to offer support in various ways, the financial toll has been overwhelming. We are now reaching out to our extended community for assistance to help Dr. Amit Kumar’s family get back on their feet. Your contribution, regardless of the amount, will make a significant difference in alleviating their immediate needs, covering expenses, maintaining the family home, and sustaining them during this difficult period.
How You Can Help:
We earnestly seek your support during this challenging time. Every single dollar of your contribution will go directly to Preeta, Amit's wife, and will be used to cover the family's immediate needs, including mortgage payments, legal fees, and future education costs for the children. Your generosity will provide them with the stability they need to navigate through this difficult period and rebuild their lives.
Conclusion:
As we come together to honor the memory of Dr. Amit Kumar, let us also stand in solidarity with his grieving family. Your support will not only ease their financial burden but will serve as a testament to the love and compassion that binds us all. Thank you for your generosity, and please share this campaign widely to help us reach as many caring hearts as possible. You have an opportunity to extend your soothing hand and support to Dr. Amit’s family. God bless!
