My name is Dr. Paul Ackerman. I practiced orthopedic surgery for over forty years. I have been blessed to spend my career helping people, which has given me great joy. I had my practice in Brooklyn, but due to illness, it left me no choice but to shut down the practice back in June 2025. I had hoped that I would return to treating my patients, but during that time of hoping, it cost me all my life savings. I have been hospitalized 13 times at Cornell University Hospital since February 2024 up till present. The last discharge was March 2026. This last hospitalization placed me in the ICU. I've had four blood infections, congestive heart failure, liver & kidney cyst infection, and pleural effusion. Recently, my condition has worsened, and my doctors have advised that a kidney transplant is necessary to save my life and restore my quality of life.

My entire life savings has been depleted because of all the medical bills. I am currently on the list for a kidney transplant.

I have two sons and three grandchildren that live in Florida. Over the past five years, I have been on dialysis due to kidney failure.
